Many beginning writers don’t consider that their memoir is not a biography. It doesn’t need to encompass their entire life story. The memoirs I like the most are the ones that deal with a period of time in the author’s life that was pivotal. As well as the more obvious tragic event, it may be a quiet pivot. A new awareness, forgiveness or spiritual awakening. Maybe something was said in passing that changed your perspective on your life and caused you to redirect your trajectory. Sometimes just reframing your definition of success can be life changing.
